The Silent Twins

The Old Partick Police Station, Glasgow

1994
  • Description

Staged in a deserted Victorian prison, The Silent Twins was the only small-scale work undertaken by NVA. A powerful and disturbing exploration of the true story of mute identical twins Jane and Jennifer Gibbons who spent many years in institutions, including Broadmoor, as a result of their inability to communicate with the outside world. Performed by London rappers The Courtney Twins (not silent!) with an octophonic soundscape produced by ambient composer MP Lancaster, the performance cast a lingering shadow over many who saw it.

“A riveting work” (The List)

“Don’t expect answers, just mind stirring questions” (The Herald)
